The lightning bugs have arrived, flashing their little neon butts, hovering like hummingbirds in the muggy air. The brief, but intense storms that rage through during these hot summer months are incredible. Today Ainsley and I were driving home in beautiful 88 degree sunshine. We noticed people walking by, staring up at the bank of black clouds rolling in. We disappeared into traffic under a tunnel, only to emerge in penny-sized hail and gale-force winds a few minutes later. Crab feasts are calling my name, and students have gone off on their vacations and summer camps. (Many of which require transcripts... I am reminded how competetive EVERYTHING is around here!)
Ainsley is spending her first of probably many sweaty nights sleeping in just her diaper, with little ringlets curling above her neck.
Sunny days, balmy nights.... fireflies... fresh seafood and produce at the market... lazy days and ice cold coffee. August Recess looming, when dada can come home for dinner and playtime. I love the summer in DC!

The storms sound incredible. Oh, if I could gently tug just one of those little ringlets.....
