Dentists

musing...
~bear with me or simply go look at cute pictures of Ainsley~

The variety of dentists out there astounds me. In the last 15 years or so (since graduating high school and leaving my childhood and family dentist) I have been served by 8 different dental offices. Yes. 8.

Why think of dentists? Seriously? Do I not have enough to do? Well... I have lately been politely and sweetly told that my teeth need some serious work. And then I saw the digital photos up close. ouch. Pregnancy and breastfeeding have done their number on me. From a 0-cavity kid... to a single (okay,2 very very small ones) cavity adult... the dentist had to fix 3 that have cropped up since motherhood and there are at least a dozen (not exaggerating) in the works. I have to use prescription fluoride toothpaste every night, and a 'gum stimulator' - not to mention switching to Sensodyne Pronamel (aren't all those commercials showing elderly?) as my regular paste. Floss. Listerine. These are expected. Every. Night.

I find this amusing. (So does Jasper - who's scoring all "A's", unbelievably, at his dentist.)

Especially since not 4 years ago, when I saw a rural dentist back home (before hopping back on board w/ the wonderful family dentist from my past) - who said to me (at his LAST appointment of the day, 6pm, mind you)... "Wow. You are the first patient I've seen all day with all of their teeth. Good job. I don't need to see you but every other year."

Quite the spectrum.

  1. Hilarious! And damn Jasper by the way-- and his perfect teeth. ;)

My teeth have gotten a lot worse since pregnancies/adulthood, too-- last time I had 8 cavities.

    Yowza.

I have a whole pediatric dentist story for you next time we talk. Argh.
