out and about - summer in DC takes off

Burke Lake
nothin' like a day at a park in the rain.  at least the mini train was running!

My FAVORITE part of summer?  Mornings (or afternoons!) at Peregrine Coffee Shop
chocolate croissant - yum!

we can watch the world go by

and catch up on our gossip
 Dog Park - a must
still our favorite MONKEY PRINCESS

toes catchin' some air on the stroller ride

invited by ainsley's friend to an awesome country club pool

CAMPING time!!
Day 1 of Ainsley's summer - off to the MD countryside at a KOA
daddy getting the cool new contraption ready for addie's first big pool adventure (she loved it! Sorry, no pix)

bubbles vid:

Ains made many friends - and pushed the boundaries of her independence, wanting to do everything and go everywhere "by myself"

jake needed a serious BATH after that trip!
 Dog Park - again.

yes, she dressed herself.... after about 90 minutes of contemplation . this outfit was considered very carefully from every angle. might be 'off' dresses for a bit ?? (picking my jaw up off the floor)

becoming the ball thrower for all the park dogs
 Yards Park
This place is a few blocks from our house, near the historic Navy Yards of DC. With a 5 year old wanting to be in the water every day, and hard up for entertainment, this is the perfect remedy.  Pool is 10" deep. Fountains. Grass. Restaurants and bathrooms nearby. I expect weekly (or more) afternoons spent here.
that's Ains in the waterfall - brave girl - wearing her new "makeeni" from nana

fascinated with this green stuff - - - is her hair STRAWBERRY blonde??? eeeeee! :)

A Morning at the School Playground

shorts again - huh! what d'ya know?? where'd the girly dresses go all of a sudden? (BTW - these are her favorite shoes... despite the fact that she has 12 pairs sitting freshly on the shelf)
Theatre in the Woods -
presents
Elizabeth Mitchell!
my heart - swoon - thank you, Sis, again, for introducing me to her.  My friend Steph is now addicted too. Maybe we'll go every summer. :) Her live performance is just so wonderful.  And the space so inviting and kid friendly. And an entirely different contingent of DC shows up for this concert. :)  no suits. baby wearing mommas with no make up, mostly. :)

picnic lunch - pretty here, isn't it?  The kids loved running all over the field and up/down the hill.

so content outdoors
hide and seek!

Sweet Friends - since daycare!

  2. Looks like Abear is off to a great summer! Glad you guys are making a habit of doing something like this each year. Will create lots of good memories for the bear cubs. And Ainsley? What a great big sister you are! Looking very much to our time together this July.
