In the Midst of History

This building
sits directly across the street from our house. It was built in 1789. It was a home, of over 18,000 square feet and 52 rooms. George Washington was once a guest in this house. There is a cut piece of wood on the main floor leading to a tunnel diving 42 feet under ground - part (some say the beginning) of the Underground Railroad. This building has been a 'Friendship House' daycare for decades - but finally went under. It was recently purchased by a mysterious buyer. Ainsley and I were honored with a private tour and scored several items from the daycare that were liquidated at rock bottom prices (unfortunately, the big daycare-sized play kitchens were already spoken for). Walking through - I felt the energy and breath of the generations of people that roamed these walls. Imagine what it must have been like in it's original state!
